~HOLA~
Welcome to CHICANALICIOUS~*~the main purpose of this blog is to bring awareness to the amazing beauty of our brown culture and the women who are a part of it~i want to showcase different styles and what the women of race and culture do on a daily basis. How they honor their culture and hold true to the values of what it means to be Latina, or at least what it means to each person individually~*~
Chicana is a word derived from the term "mexicanos" pronounced "mesheecano", given to the Spanish speakers of North America, i.e. the Mexican Americans, during the last century. It evolved into "Chicano" or "jicano" because of the over exaturated "x" sound. The term "Chicano/a" began to be used more widely, it seems during the 1960's civil rights movement as a way to identify Latin Americans, and became a popular term for the sub-culture within the Latin culture formerly known as the "zoot suits".
Today, Chicano/a is a more widely used term for those of us in the US who have roots in the Latin culture, whether that be from Mexican ancestry, or, like the folks of Northern New Mexico, who claim to be able to trace their roots back to the Spanish Conquistadors. Most of the beautiful brown people who proudly call themselves Chicano/a live in the SW region of the US, predominately in and around New Mexico, Arizona, Southern California and Texas, but to be fair, this blog will showcase brown women from all over the US, and even our counterparts in Mexico, Puerto Rico, South American and Spain. The better term would be "Latina", but, just for fun, i chose the name "Chicanalicious" because it seemed to better encapsulate the beautiful, sexy, delicious, brown chica~*~
